Shopping *is* a sport…

27 11 2005

Yesterday we went on a shopping ‘marathon’….  I havnt been that tired from shopping since living in Tokyo…  We did one of those shopping tours as a fund raiser for the Miss Personality quest, and managed to raise about $190 from just comissions.  I think that our total will be somewhere close to the $500 mark, which is great becuase thats the minimum you have to raise to be in the quest.  Of couse I do want to raise a lot more than just that 🙂

So, shopping tour.  Well, it was….  intresting.  I’m finding that there really arnt that many bargins to be had in warehouse/discount shopping.  maybe Im just a snob.  But i did manage to find some items for myself – a skirt, a couple of books, a handbag.  Overall, the bus spent over $3000, and I only spent about $100.

We also raffled off some of the presents that were given to the group, but they were nothing special, and sold drinks.  It was quite a fun day overall, but I dont think I’ll do that sort of thing again.  Our next fundraiser will be the christmas cakes, followed by a trivia night.  that shoud be intresting….

Life in general, well, Im having some revelations lately.  In the last month i have done some bad bad things, and I have been feeling very badly for it.   very indeed.  But thru these trials I am becoming closer and closer to God.  Its a good thing, but in a bad way.  Becoming closer to God is good, me doing very bad things is bad.  So Im praying that Im able to prevent myself from doing these bad things, and that I can continue to grow closer to God without them – which means effort.  This is another feeling I dont think I’ve felt to the same extreme since Tokyo.  This is very hard to talk about, and have what Im feeling understood.

suffice to say, this is a difficult time in my life, and will continue to be difficult for a while.  so, I suppose Im trying to say is that support would be nice (but not that I want ppl to ring me up now and say “Whats wrong, can I help?”  more like, I would just like ppl to understand that there are changes happening and to have some patience.)

i think thats enough random ramblings for today.

nana nana nana nana batman!

24 11 2005

well, todays highlight was watching batman begins.  Wow is it a good movie!  I certainly recommend it!

however, I think it would have been more appropriately called batman vs the ninjas *insert ninja sound here*.  And I have problems with Ken Watanabe being cast at the good guy with bad intentions.  But the concept was an intresting one.

You Are Mud Pie

You’re the perfect combo of flavor and depth
Those who like you give into their impulses

You Are Pumpkin Pie

Even when people are full – they make room for you.
Good or bad, your smell is most likely to arouse a man.

the second one just made me laugh hard!

I had so many things I wanted to talk about last night, but now, I remember maybe one.  such is…..

I’m not doing a good job of getting my life back on line.  you know those goals I set last week, well….  none has been started let alone completed.  I really really need to get my priorities straight.  its a hard task.

We went to see the Corpse Bride today..  not so good.  I like the imagery, but it just doesn’t live up to Nightmare Before Christmas.  And the plot, well, lets just say that there’s a reason why it only ran for and hour and a bit.  *sighs*  still, glad that I saw it.

Yesterday I went into town and spent a little too much money, but I’m happy with what I bought.

gee I am not in the mood to write right now….  so I’ll leave this hear and go do my ironing or something.

15 11 2005

There are things I need to do, ASAP, that just arnt getting done.  So, heres a goal – book all my appointments by then end of the weekend.  I mean, doctors, car service etc.  (hmmm, I thought there was more than that….)  Then there are other appointments that can wait til I have money…. massage, hair cut, podi… um, foot doctor….  And the other things I need to get done, and I give myself a week for these – print my photos from japan, and email everyone I’ve been putting off.  And finally the thing I need to do starting from today – study japanese.  (the JPTL is sneeking up!)

I’ve decided i need to write a schedule.  Not one that I have to stick to, but one I should stick to.  For example, in the mornings, I shouldnt get up and get on the computer (like now), I should eat my proper breakfast (toast, fruit and milk) have a shower and be done with that in a timely manner.  But before showering I should also do some stretches.  I should also study japanese in the mornings, so that Im not procrastinating about doing it (which means it will never get done).  After my shower I should bath my ear in salt water everyday (its a little infected at the moment…)

In the evenings, I should read a verse from the bible before going to bed.  I can read some of my books.  I should be in bed before 12, if becase of work, before one. and I should only sleep 8 hours.

I wonder if I can stick to these guidelines?  they say it takes 3 weeks to create a habit.

Implementation

14 11 2005

Mum took a look at my blog last night, and the comment that she had about the colors was that they were very me

so if these colors were me, that got me to thinking what do the colors mean?

Pink – love and beauty

Orange/Yellow – vitality, endurance, enthusiasm, fascination, happiness, creativity, determination, attraction, success, encouragement, and stimulation/wisdom, joy, happiness, intellectual energy

Blue – youth, spiritually, truth, peace, trust, loyalty, wisdom, confidence, intelligence, faith, and heaven

Black – death, earth, stability, power, elegance, formality, evil, and mystery

Grey – Sorrow, security, maturity

hmmmm, intresting… does this mean Im partly evil..   bwhahahaha

*ahem*

so anyway, Implementation, Im talking about all the things I want to do with myself in the post – a new world.

i have already started, I’ve already donated about 3 bags of old clothes and a bag of shoes to lifeline.  But there are still things I have a hard time getting rid of in my wardrobe.  It can be so hard to part from things, especially if they were given to you. you kinda feel guilty.  really not looking forward to when I go through all my trinkets…  (to sell on ebay naturally)

Im trying not to just throw things out, not only is it bad for the enviroment, but its also bad feng shui.  but mainly becuase i dont want to contribute to the landfill problem.

one thing I really want to start on is working on my internet problem.  last night I was supposed to get an early nights sleep.  I finally turned off the computer at 1230 ish….  part of my motivation problems and time management problems is that I sleep in far too late.  This isnt just becuase of the internet, but my internet problem is something i can change.

So I will start having computer free days.  The first one will be on Thursday.  And I have to do something about my fanfiction reading.  I’ve been pretty good since I last said that I was trying to stop reading so much, but its creeping back into my life.  I do enjoy reading, but the fact that I waste so much time on it is quite destructive.  so, here’s my rules till the end of the year:  I will only read stories that I am watching in my author/story alerts.  And i will only read stories that are nominated on the RKRC awards, becuase I have to vote for that.  Oh, and of course what i am editing for Eden.

and hopefully I will learn to use my time more productivly.

johnny boy

14 11 2005

oh my god, Im am soooooo envious – Dad met John Travolta!  He’s so cool!

And then he rang mum and she chatted to him!  *sighs*

oh, and on reflection, and from comments, the background was too bright, so I decided to tone it down a bit…

Just to tickle your fancy – A Ronnie Barker skit

This is the story of Rindercella and her sugly isters.

Rindercella and her sugly isters lived in a marge lansion. Rindercella worked very hard frubbing sloors, emptying poss pits, and shivelling shot.

At the end of the day, she was knucking fackered.

The sugly isters were right bugly astards. One was called Mary Hinge, and the other was called Betty Swallocks; they were really forrible huckers;they had fetty sweet and fetty swannies. The sugly isters had tickets to go to the ball, but the cotton runts would not let Rindercella go.

a new world

like the theme?  feedback greatly appreciated!

New beginnings

In Japan, for new year they do this massive clean.  Im not certain, but I think its called Osouji.  The idea is to rid the house of all the negatives and sins of the past year so that you start the new year ‘with a fresh and serene mind’.  Its kinda like our resolutions, but a bit more symbolic, and easier to stick to I guess.  (ie, it’s not that hard to set aside a day for cleaning…)

Also, an element of Feng Shui is to clean the clutter out of your life and your lifestyle will be come less cluttered.

I want to embrace these ideals, because I am now in a major transition stage – going from university and my occupation being a full time student, to being something else and only a part time student  for my own enjoyment (not as an obligation).

I have many plans for the future, but in this transitional phase, which i think will last approximately a year, I want to sort my life out so that Im better prepared for what will come.  Although previously spontaneity has served me well, i dont think its the best way to life your life, so a little planning is in order.

Firstly in sorting out my life I want to physically sort it out.

I am going to embark on the mother of all ‘Osouji’.  I will get rid of clothes I no longer wear, that are too small or big for me.  I will sell on eBay items that I no longer need in my life.  I will sort out  my uni books and papers.  I will simplify my life by letting go of material possessions.

Secondly, I will make myself happy with me.  I will go to the gym. I will start yoga.  I will go swimming.  I will only buy clothes that suit my style.  I will work on my image so that it better describes who I am.

Thirdly, I will pursue peace of mind, happiness of spirit and strength of soul.  I will make stronger and closer relationships with family and friends.  I will grow closer to God (though this should be first and foremost among everything).  I will have quite time.  I will pursue hobbies I enjoy and read things that increase my knowledge.

Fourthly, I will save for the future and plan so that i have the best possible chances of achievement.

It might be a scary change, but I am preferring to be excited.  Opportunity is knocking.

i didnt plan on adding an entry til my new theme was up and running, but this blogthing was just too good to pass 🙂

Your Birthdate: September 1

You are a natural born leader, even if those leadership talents haven’t been developed yet.
You have the power and self confidence to succeed in life, and your power grows daily.
Besides power, you also have a great deal of creativity that enables you to innovate instead of fail.
You are a visionary, seeing the big picture instead of all of the trivial little details.

Your strength: Your supreme genius

Your weakness: Your inappropriate sensitivity

Your power color: Gold

Your power symbol: Star

Your power month: January

5 11 2005

ah, yeah, this is just an interim theme, whilst I prepare my next one.  I wanted to change over completely today, however i am rarely prepared.

so, the biggest news – I am finished university (knock on wood) as of 1145 yesterday morning.  and yes, I was drunk 3 hours later.  Im not going to get into the thinking behind that right here right now.  maybe if you read my 43things list you might get the run down.

so anyway, big changes here, because I have big changes in my life.  We worked it out, I have been a university student longer than i was a high school students, so of course I think that this is a big thing.

and I cant think because dad is playing XXX in the background here very very very very very very loud.  grrrrr.

um, apart from that, I’ve been reading ‘A short history of everything’ by Bill Bryson.  Its a very entertaining book, and really, even as a person who has devoted a good part of the last 6 years studying physics, Im finding out a lot of stuff i didn’t know.  Here are a few things I wanted to share with you –

  • ‘white dielectric material’ is more commonly known as bird shit
  • The term supernovae was termed by Fritz Zwicky, who actually wasn’t all that smart and a bit of an arse.  But had some good insights.
  • Zwicky was also said to be ‘not understanding the laws of physics well enough to be able to substantiate his ideas’ – this is the aim of my professional life!
  • The laws of thermodynamics can be expressed as such – ‘1.  you cant win, 2. you cant break even, 3. you cant get out of the game.’

2 11 2005

i blame this all on you Angus.  Oh, and Mark too I suppose.

I have a new webcomic to read – http://www.comedity.com/   Its pretty wacky, and it sold me on the line “Barbeque – its Austrlian for good times and grilled animal”

and it has penguins.  penguins are cool.

(oh, and just for clarification, Im blaming it on the above two becuase they have encouraged my reading of webmedia…)
