Psalm 51 and the state of the world

24 07 2006

maybe I should note that im not saying Psalm 51 is a reflection on the state of the world or anything.  I just feel like sharing some verses from the bible that I have found particularly touching at one time or another.

For the director of music. A psalm of David. When the prophet Nathan came to him after David had committed adultery with Bathsheba.

   [a] 1 Have mercy on me, O God,
       according to your unfailing love;
       according to your great compassion
       blot out my transgressions.

    2 Wash away all my iniquity
       and cleanse me from my sin.

    3 For I know my transgressions,
       and my sin is always before me.

    4 Against you, you only, have I sinned
       and done what is evil in your sight;
       so you are right in your verdict
       and justified when you judge.

    5 Surely I was sinful at birth,
       sinful from the time my mother conceived me.

    6 Yet you desired faithfulness even in the womb;
       you taught me wisdom in that secret place.

    7 Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean;
       wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.

    8 Let me hear joy and gladness;
       let the bones you have crushed rejoice.

    9 Hide your face from my sins
       and blot out all my iniquity.

    10 Create in me a pure heart, O God,
       and renew a steadfast spirit within me.

    11 Do not cast me from your presence
       or take your Holy Spirit from me.

    12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation
       and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.

    13 Then I will teach transgressors your ways,
       and sinners will turn back to you.

    14 Deliver me from bloodguilt, O God,
       you who are God my Savior,
       and my tongue will sing of your righteousness.

    15 Open my lips, Lord,
       and my mouth will declare your praise.

    16 You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it;
       you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings.

    17 My sacrifice, O God, is [b] a broken spirit;
       a broken and contrite heart
       you, God, will not despise.

    18 May it please you to prosper Zion,
       to build up the walls of Jerusalem.

    19 Then you will delight in the sacrifices of the righteous,
       in burnt offerings offered whole;
       then bulls will be offered on your altar.

I just finished watching Fahrenheit 9/11, and all I can say is that I am DISGUSTED by the american government.

And now I want to find ways in which I can support anit-war campaigns and help people in Australia living in poverty.

And when I am next time living overseas, there is no way I will take the option not to vote.  I will have my say.

Ecclesiastes 3 TNIV

A Time for Everything

    1 There is a time for everything,
       and a season for every activity under the heavens:

    2 a time to be born and a time to die,
       a time to plant and a time to uproot,

    3 a time to kill and a time to heal,
       a time to tear down and a time to build,

    4 a time to weep and a time to laugh,
       a time to mourn and a time to dance,

    5 a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
       a time to embrace and a time to refrain,

    6 a time to search and a time to give up,
       a time to keep and a time to throw away,

    7 a time to tear and a time to mend,
       a time to be silent and a time to speak,

    8 a time to love and a time to hate,
       a time for war and a time for peace.

    9 What do workers gain from their toil? 10 I have seen the burden God has laid on the human race. 11 He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end. 12 I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live. 13 That each of them may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all their toil—this is the gift of God. 14 I know that everything God does will endure forever; nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it. God does it so that people will fear him.

    15 Whatever is has already been,
       and what will be has been before;
       and God will call the past to account. [a]

    16 And I saw something else under the sun:
       In the place of judgment—wickedness was there,
       in the place of justice—wickedness was there.

    17 I said to myself,
       “God will bring into judgment
       both the righteous and the wicked,
       for there will be a time for every activity,
       a time to judge every deed.”

    18 I also said to myself, “As for human beings, God tests them so that they may see that they are like the animals. 19 Surely the fate of human beings is like that of the animals; the same fate awaits them both: As one dies, so dies the other. All have the same breath [b]; humans have no advantage over animals. Everything is meaningless. 20 All go to the same place; all come from dust, and to dust all return. 21 Who knows if the human spirit rises upward and if the spirit of the animal goes down into the earth?”

    22 So I saw that there is nothing better for people than to enjoy their work, because that is their lot. For who can bring them to see what will happen after them?

18 07 2006

okay, well, techincally Kenshin was never alive.  so that point is moot.

So, heres my salute to the final ruroken.

i really dont know where time goes….

Have uploaded my photos from my graduation, they can be found here – http://www.flickr.com/photos/michelelisa/sets/72157594201884046/

and I uploaded some photos from when Yui was here on holidays – http://www.flickr.com/photos/michelelisa/

I love these photos

The superman escpae photo took 3 times to get right (and Yui losing the ability of her legs), and the Scooby Doo Coaster, well, we had no idea where the camera was, so we were pulling faces for about minutes.  Fun and games

I’d better post a picture from my grad too…

smart kids go head to head

4 07 2006

Catalyst is fast (if you can say that for something that only screens once a week) becoming one of my favorite tv shows.

Oh my gosh Im a geek…….

They’ve been playing a four part series called ‘Battle of the Brains’ (oh, look, the kids have colored labcoats!) Its an absolutely fascinating doco about the kids who are trying for the International Biology Olympiad

Whats really stuck me in the last episode to air here was that they girls that got thru are all very normal (well, except one, shes on the far left.).  Most of these people arn’t your cliche’ smart kids!  Sure, there were two in particular that were (child genius and the girl who rewrote parody tests with her bf for fun), but only one of them got thru.

Its a really refreshing series that shows that all smart people arent all kooky.  And for that I like it

–>This is how I feel (but without the cute little contented smile)

yesterday was crammed full, and its been such a long time since I’ve had a day like it

sometimes I hate having obligations because they can make you very tired!!!

its funny because I remember while driving from wynuum (?) to chermside I was thinking “it really feels like I’ve had a full day already” despite the fact it was only 7pmish

but in a way this is a good tired.  I worked hard, I played hard.  and spent some quality time with friends

Ravyn has written a were fanfic for ruroken.  I had to laugh.  I dont know why I have this fascination with werewolves, vampires, pirates and ninjas atm…..  but then we always knew I was a little strange.

I think its time for a hairy lemon

this quote from dragonsdaughter is worth a post.  hahah

‘Procrastination is like masturbation. It feels good, but in the end you’re only screwing yourself.’

4 06 2006

there’s an advertisement in the form of this huge silver box in the middle of the airport for the next few months.  Its for Emirates and the world cup.  And part of the ‘box’ is an internet terminal that you take a photo in and email it to your friends.

Since i have time to play here are a few examples….

through the window

1 06 2006

A sudden clack of the wheels upon the tracks, and the cabin suddenly fills with light.  The train travels fast, but in the distance a mountain stands tall and fixed.  Power lines flash by, too quick for the eye to focus.  Down below the train line is a field, lush and green, yet no one works it.  Now a road, followed by a country house, warm and homey looking.  All too soon that one home becomes a line of houses.  A tall building.  and then another, followed by more.  And then the building become houses again.  Fields start to appear.  The mountain is still in the distance.  But she doesn’t really see these things.  She is just passing through.
