not much…

23 07 2007

yeah, not much happened this week, or weekend.  Im a tiny bit broke till wednesday…..

so went for a bike ride this afternoon, and ended up getting to Itabashi, which I think is about 15km from where I live…  (I had a lovely time just taking in the scenery)

Last weekend was Madoka’s Wedding party, so I’ve put up a couple of pictures on flickr, mostly of me and ppl at work .  Madoka looked really beautiful.  It was also interesting going to a japanese wedding party, they are a bit different from receptions in western countries… only 2 and a half hours, no present required.  Lots of ppl wearing black (because thats what you wear to the ceremony).  It was a good experience http://www.flickr.com/photos/michelelisa/sets/72157600955739874/

australia vs. japan

they just bought on Harry Kewell, japan wont know what’s hit them….

edit> I can’t believe we lost…  but at least it was a penality shoot out.    still….

eureka!

14 07 2007

I’ve just discovered the Japan Meteorological Agency website! (JMA….  why couldnt it have been JAM…  come on folks, a little creativity?!?)

currently there is a Typhoon heading towards Japan, so I wanted to get details on that.  Apparently they are classed as Tropical Cyclones…  i never knew…  this requires further research…. http://www.jma.go.jp/en/typh/070424d.html  but apparently we’ve already passed the brunt of the storm.  Which is good because I have a wedding party to go to this afternoon….

Last night I saw a preview of Harry Potter.  Very enjoyable.  and Im really looking forward to reading the next book now…..

interesting weekend…

9 07 2007

well, firstly the great news – Christina had her baby on Saturday morning, and they are both healthy (and screaming, apparently).  Alas I haven’t been to visit so I have no photos to share.

Secondly, I finally managed to complete my set of ruroken figures..  Michele is a very very happy girl.  I also geeked out today and did a bit of anime shopping

I also hired out Ged Senki (Tales from Earthsea).  Its a Studio Ghibli anime, however it isnt done by Miyazaki Hayao, but by his son…  And I think it suffers because of that…  its missing a certain something.  But it does have glowing hearts and swords and dragons.  But if my memory serves me well, they really bastardized the book..  Oh well.  And that was a man?  what the?

the maid cafe quest…

1 07 2007

Well, today was quite fun!  Katie and I went to Akihabara (Akiba) with one of our students in search of a maid cafe.  um, lemme explain.

Akiba is known as the discount electronic district of Tokyo, but it also has a number of anime stores..  So, well, freaky otaku tend to gather there..  and, well, you can go to a ‘maid cafe’ and be served by a girl dressed as a maid….

Neither Katie or Gen had been to Akiba before, so I was the veteran, but I really hadn’t explored the area all that well…  So basically we walked around to see what we could find.  Being sunday, Chuo Street was closed to traffic during the day and there were lots off people…  um…  preforming?  and just wandering around in costume…  a surprising number of guys in school girl outfits, and one guy gyrating in his underwear…

We then headed back to the station to get a map of the area and find a maid cafe.  Outside the station there were girls drumming up business for the cafes, and it was surprising how many men were taking photos of them…  but since most cafes dont let you take photos, i guess it isn’t that surprising…

So, we finally made it to a maid cafe and had our drinks..  The funny thing is that the maids talk very very polite language and call you things like ‘Lord’ and ‘Lady’.

For our next quest Gen is going to find a ‘man servant’ cafe for us… hehe

photos are here

well?

geek alert

20 06 2007

much to my surprise and pleasure…  they have released a new set of Rurouni Kenshin figures, and I can buy them at my local 7-11!!!  huzzah!

And tonight, I picked Kenshin!  (he’s the heaviest)  Im pretty impressed, its a very nice looking figure, and comes in almost one piece, so it doesnt have that nasty habit of not fitting together, or falling apart…  I see myself trying to sell these on eBay….

Rainy season

14 06 2007

Yesterday was the start of rainy season.   joy……

On other news, Nova Corp are in a bit of trouble.  It seems the government has banned Nova from taking any new students for six months.  Which, considering this is how Nova actually makes their money, means big problems for the company. http://search.japantimes.co.jp/cgi-bin/nn20070614a1.html

its actually amazing how much bad press they have gotten.  well.   not that amazing.

Yamanashi

11 06 2007

On May 20th I went to Yamanashi with some people from work to look at Mt Fuji.  It really was my first time to see Fuji up close, cause every other time its been cloudy or just not so, pretty/perfect(?) looking.  We were really lucky mind you, the weather was absolutly perfect!

We drove down, and went to a natural spring first, followed by the lookout above, and then on to lunch.  Yamanashi udon is really yummy!  After lunch we went to Kawaguchi-ko and had cheesecake and looked at fuji some more (how perfect).  Then we went to a small boat around the lake, and finally we went and tried some wines at a winery.

All in all, a long day, but it was great fun.  Photos can be found here – http://www.flickr.com/photos/michelelisa/sets/72157600236753267/
