New beginnings
In Japan, for new year they do this massive clean. Im not certain, but I think its called Osouji. The idea is to rid the house of all the negatives and sins of the past year so that you start the new year ‘with a fresh and serene mind’. Its kinda like our resolutions, but a bit more symbolic, and easier to stick to I guess. (ie, it’s not that hard to set aside a day for cleaning…)
Also, an element of Feng Shui is to clean the clutter out of your life and your lifestyle will be come less cluttered.
I want to embrace these ideals, because I am now in a major transition stage – going from university and my occupation being a full time student, to being something else and only a part time student
for my own enjoyment (not as an obligation).
I have many plans for the future, but in this transitional phase, which i think will last approximately a year, I want to sort my life out so that Im better prepared for what will come. Although previously spontaneity has served me well, i dont think its the best way to life your life, so a little planning is in order.
Firstly in sorting out my life I want to physically sort it out.
I am going to embark on the mother of all ‘Osouji’. I will get rid of clothes I no longer wear, that are too small or big for me. I will sell on eBay items that I no longer need in my life. I will sort out my uni books and papers. I will simplify my life by letting go of material possessions.
Secondly, I will make myself happy with me. I will go to the gym. I will start yoga. I will go swimming. I will only buy clothes that suit my style. I will work on my image so that it better describes who I am.
Thirdly, I will pursue peace of mind, happiness of spirit and strength of soul. I will make stronger and closer relationships with family and friends. I will grow closer to God (though this should be first and foremost among everything). I will have quite time. I will pursue hobbies I enjoy and read things that increase my knowledge.
Fourthly, I will save for the future and plan so that i have the best possible chances of achievement.
It might be a scary change, but I am preferring to be excited. Opportunity is knocking.
