Brisbane International Film festival is on! Yay! http://www.biff.com.au over 200 films! wow! 12 Japanese films (gee, you wonder what my intrests are….)
there are 2 movies that Im intrested in –
| Into the Picture Scroll—The Tale of Yamanaka Tokiwa [more] |
| Directors | Haneda Sumiko |
| Countries | Japan |
| Language | Japanese |
| Synopsis | The Yamanaka Tokiwa is a picture scroll some 150 metres long and over 400 years old, depicting a popular Japanese tale about a samurai avenging the murder of his mother. This most unusual and surprisingly engaging film brings the scroll to life. It took eight years of painstaking work making full scale copies of the scroll just to capture it: it was another 11 years before the film, which also includes live action and a jojuri (musical narrative accompaniment), was completed. |
read about that scroll in my history class
| The Taste of Tea (Cha no Aji) [more] |
| Directors | Ishii Katsuhito |
| Countries | Japan |
| Language | Japanese |
| Synopsis | Tarantino fans might recognise Ishii Katsuhito as the creator of the animation in Kill Bill: Vol. 1: others may remember him as the director of crime caper Shark Skin Man and Peach Hip Girl (BIFF 99). Here he shows new depths of talent, with a touching, funny, and imaginative look at the eccentricities hiding just beneath the calm surface of ordinary life. The Haruno family could be any Japanese family… except they are all just a little bit… odd. A delightful film. |
I love shark-skin man and peach-hip girl! Its a great movie, so I would love to see more of this directors work!
